Foster Grandparents Needed
The Penquis Foster Grandparent Program has multiple volunteer opportunities in schools and child care centers that serve children and young people between the ages of 0 and 21.
Foster Grandparents volunteer their time working with at-risk children under the supervision of a teacher. Across Maine, Foster Grandparents help children develop good social and academic skills, mentor troubled teenagers and young mothers, and give lots of support.Foster Grandparents receive 20 hours of orientation training, plus 4 hours of monthly training in regional meetings. They receive daily supervision from site staff and overall supervision by the Foster Grandparent Program staff.
The program covers all of Maine except York and Cumberland counties.
Applicants must be age 55 or older and willing to volunteer between 15 and 40
hours per week. Eligible applicants receive a non-taxable stipend for the hours
volunteered. Background checks are completed on all volunteers.
