Early Head Start & Head Start

Head Start is a federally funded program for preschool children 3-5 years of age. Early Head Start is for 0-3 years of age. The programs are free of charge for income eligible families. A sliding fee scale is in place for child care services. Children experience developmentally appropriate classroom activities to increase skills in Learning, Thinking and Doing, Social Interactions, Large and Small Muscle Development, and Daily Health and Nutrition Routines. Head Start and Early Head Start works with families to provide the following services to children enrolled in the program:
Medical exam and necessary follow-up
Immunizations
Dental exam and necessary follow-up
Developmental screenings
Nutritional services
Social services (Family Partnerships)

Penquis Child Development is recognized as a quality program by the New England Head Start Association, National Association for the Education of Young Children and the State of Maine. The "Quality Program" rating by the State of Maine entitles parents of children enrolled in Penquis Child Care classrooms to an increased tax credit for child care on their State of Maine Income Tax Return.
