Parent Teen Mediation
Professional mediation is provided to families with an adolescent where conflict is unmanageable and where adolescents may be absent from the home or at-risk of leaving the home due to conflict. Conflicts are often in regard to such things as curfew, choice of friends, chores or dating. Mediation is a means of solving problems with the help of individuals trained to listen and help facilitate families reaching agreements that are fair to each member. Solutions are realistic, fair and decided on by the family members. Mediation is not therapy or counseling.
Services are free, confidential, and offered in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties. Mediation sessions are held in a safe and private environment outside of the home, but in a location convenient to the family.
Any family with parent-adolescent conflict, regardless of income, is eligible. Referrals may come from many sources including the community, social services agencies, schools and counselors, or families may contact the program directly.
