What if I don’t have any money or insurance?
PHS offers most services on a sliding fee scale. No one is refused basic services for inability to pay. You may qualify for reduced or no-cost care.
Do you accept Medicaid (MaineCare)?
PHS accepts Medicaid (MaineCare), Medicare and private insurances.
I don’t want anyone to know I’ve been for to PHS for services.
Our care is confidential to all, regardless of age. Information about you and your care is given only to those you have given us written permission to do so. We are, however, mandatory reporters so if you are at risk of hurting yourself or others or are being sexually abused, we are obligated to break confidentiality for your safety. Can I get birth control pills or other birth control supplies right at the clinic?
We have most birth control methods on site and are available on a sliding fee scale. Prescriptions to take to your own pharmacy can also be written.
Do you do abortions there?
Our services are, hopefully, to prevent the need for abortion. In the event of an unplanned pregnancy, we offer pregnancy testing, options counseling and referrals as well as information for future birth control.
I’m not married; can I still be seen?
Services here are available to all women and men for reproductive health care regardless of age, income, marital status, sexual orientation, residence, etc.
I am a teen; can I be seen without my parents knowing?
Yes, our services are confidential and, though we encourage teens discussing importance life decisions with their parents, we do not notify or require permission from parents to see minors.
I have insurance so I shouldn’t come to you as your services are just for teens and/or low-income people, right?
Our services are available to all regardless of income. Many people with insurance come to us for female providers, atmosphere, convenience, location and cost.
I want to see a female provider?
Our health care providers are female certified OB/GYN or Family Practice Nurse Practitioners who have additional education, training and experience in reproductive health care. Our medical director is also a female physician.
Do you have the “morning after pill”?
We have emergency contraception available. This needs to be considered for unprotected intercourse within 72 hours.
