Web Site Links for Parents, Educators and Teens:
Please note:
Parents should review content of web sites before recommending to their
child(ren). Many of these sites would be best viewed with parent and
child together as discussion starters and as a way to monitor content
depending on the age of the child(ren). Some web sites may be
inaccessible if a monitoring program is set to edit content. Parents
may need to change these settings if they would like their children to
have access to these sites.
SIECUS (http://www.siecus.org)
posts texts of many of its publications. Information on Comprehensive
Sexuality Education and Advocacy. A special section for parents offers
such topics as "Communication Tips for Parents" and "Kids Online: What
Parents Can Do to Protect Their Children from Cyberspace." Some topics
are also available in Spanish.
Planned Parenthood (http://www.plannedparenthood.org)
offers a variety of information about teen pregnancy, sexual health,
and birth control, as well as information for parents and other adults.
Some sections are written especially for teens. The site also offers
the capability of searching the site for keywords to find information
needed. Includes links to many other sites of interest to parents,
teens, and educators.
Alan Guttmacher Institute (http://www.agi-usa.org)
offers latest research, statistics and information on teen pregnancy,
sexually transmitted diseases and infections, and prevention programs.
Provides access to its publications and mechanism or searching back
issues of its periodical, Family Planning Perspectives.
Family Planning Association of Maine (http://www.fpam.org)
offers links to Maine clinic sites and information, newsletters for
parents on talking with children about sexuality and important local
and national news related to reproductive health.
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (http://www.cdc.gov) offers the most comprehensive and respected research and information on sexually transmitted diseases and infections.
Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (http://www.pflag.org) offers information on local support groups, advocacy opportunities, and resources on sexual orientation.
National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (http://www.teenpregnancy.org)
offers information for parents and teens to reduce teen pregnancy rates
including statistics, prevention programs and links to other sites.
Sex, Etc. (http://www.sxetc.org)
is a web site created by teens, for teens on sexuality issues. Contains
current and back issues of newsletters, with topical articles written
by and for teens. Also included, on the adult resources pages, are
discussion guides to go along with the newsletter articles for
classrooms. Developed by The Network for Family Life Education from
Rutgers University.
I Wanna Know (http://www.iwannaknow.org)
includes frequently asked questions and answers written for teens on
sexuality, relationships, reproductive health and growing up. Chat room
access and information for parents also included.
Advocates for Youth (http://www.advocatesforyouth.org)
offers latest research and publications on teen sexuality and health.
Information on government programming, political advocacy, and fact
sheets for parents, educators and youth to get involved. Lesson plans
for teachers and group leaders on related topics.
