steve_1.jpgThe housing units are being constructed at 258 Chamberlain Street and will include 32 apartments that comply with MaineHousing's green building standards for energy conservation. It is designed to meet a high level of accessibility for all residents and will have onsite laundry facilities and a community room for residents' use. Rental assistance will be available for 26 of the units through U.S. Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) project-based vouchers.

The event was hosted by Steve Mooers, Executive Director, Penquis Housing, Inc. and well attended by city officials including Jerry Goss, Brewer’s Mayor and other business and community leaders. Supporters of this project include MaineHousing, the City of Brewer, Brewer Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Northern New England Housing Investment Fund, People's United Bank, and Penquis. The facility is being constructed by Nickerson & O'Day, Inc., of Brewer.

Construction is finally underway thanks to the faithful efforts of the Brewer Housing Authority, and many organizations and individuals who share the common purpose of insuring our elderly population have decent, affordable homes.
