Health Insurance Marketplace Important Open Enrollment and Important Dates

Starting Sunday, November 1, 2015, open enrollment begins for the Health Insurance Marketplace. Individuals can fill out or update a Health Insurance Marketplace application to enroll, renew or change plans. December 15, 2015 is the last day to enroll in or change plans for new coverage to start on January 1, 2016. Open enrollment ends January 31, 2016.

"Health insurance plans in the Marketplace can be very affordable," explains Theresa Cucinotti, Health Care Navigator/ Community Education Specialist at Penquis. A family of two can make up to $63,720.00 and still receive a Premium Tax Credit to help pay insurance premiums.

Penquis is part of the Community Action Navigator Consortium and is a partner in a statewide network of certified Health Insurance Marketplace Navigators. Navigators can provide free in-person assistance to help individuals apply for and enroll in coverage through the marketplace. “We are not affiliated with any insurance company so we provide fair and unbiased advice,” shares Cucinotti. “Navigators can help you access programs that could lower your monthly health premiums and out-of pocket costs and understand the options available to you. Your private information is protected and we will never share it with anybody”.

The fee for not having health coverage in 2016 is $695 per adult up to $2085 or 2.5% of household income, whichever is higher. If you have questions about the Health Insurance Marketplace, call Theresa Cucinotti at 1-844-846-3691 or e-mail her at
