Imagine living in rural Maine with a cancer diagnosis and in need of daily treatment with little to no financial means to get treatment. Well that is a reality for many individuals in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. Many are thankful for the Access to Cancer Care program, it is just one of our transportation programs that provides transportation assistance (rides or financial reimbursement) for individuals who do not have or cannot afford transportation to medical treatment of cancer.
Transportation is often a barrier when an individual doesn’t drive or can’t drive due to poor health or mobility, or doesn’t have a reliable vehicle and cannot afford the cost of a taxi. Donations are used to provide rides to or financial reimbursement for transportation to medical care, including cancer treatment and dialysis.
