Programs that Support Families and Children

We’ve Got Your Back- This program provides backpacks and basic school supplies to area children.  On average we serve a total of 1,200 children from Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox Counties. This campaign actively runs from July 5th – August 18th. Donations are welcome all year long. Individuals can give online and we can purchase backpacks at a discounted rate or you can drop off a backpack at one of our offices.

Christmas is for Kids – This program provides a gift to children who otherwise would not have a gift during the holiday season.  This is primarily an online program where donors can select a child of their choice to shop for or give a cash gift and we will do the shopping for you.  The online site is available runs the Friday after Thanksgiving until Dec.18th. at

The Journey House – The Penquis Journey House, located in Dexter, is a transitional living program for pregnant and/or parenting young women between the ages of 16 and 21 who are experiencing homelessness. We have 24 hour on site staff for support and guidance; we offer case management services, connection to area resources and parenting support.

The Law Project – For survivors of domestic violence, the Penquis Law Project provides high quality civil legal assistance at no cost. However, its ability to build strong cases is often impaired by the client’s inability to pay court, service and other fees necessary to substantiate their claims in court and help them and their children escape abuse.  Donations to the Support for Survivors fund will be used to remove the cost barrier for clients who cannot afford court fees and are not eligible for waiver.
