“We are all on this journey of life together, each given certain gifts to make this world a better place and to help make one another’s burdens a little lighter along the way.” Michael Ramsdell

If you have something to share, whether it is your time, talents, love for children or the elderly, or a desire to give back to your community, Penquis has a variety of volunteer opportunities. Click the links below for more information, including contact information.

Penquis Volunteer Drivers – Penquis has an immediate need for volunteer drivers! We transport folks from all over Penobscot and Piscatquis counties to qualifying appointments. We especially need volunteers in the mornings, when demand is highest. The Volunteers operate their own vehicles and are reimbursed for mileage, at a rate of at least $.41 per mile. The volunteer donates his/her own time and driving skills. For more information, please contact Christopher Childs at cchilds@penquis.org

Foster Grandparent Program - Foster Grandparents are individuals age 55 and over who thrive on direct interaction with children and want to make a difference in their lives. Income-eligible Foster Grandparents receive a modest stipend to help offset the costs of volunteering. FMI- contact Maria Staples at mstaples@penquis.org

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program -RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers as it matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to serve their communities. FMI contact cfeldpaush@penquis.org

Rape Response Services (RRS) Volunteer Advocates -RRS offers a 40 hour volunteer training to community members interested in becoming a volunteer. Volunteers assist with Medical Accompaniments, Tabling Events, Community & Awareness Events, and our Annual Fall Auction. For information on the next training, contact Alex Turallo at aturallo@penquis.org

Sharing with Seniors-  If you have time and particular service, skill or talent you would like to share with the elderly, either in group or one on one setting.  Penquis provides Assisted Living Services at Freezes in Bangor, Merry Gardens in Camden and Stearn in Millinocket and welcomes volunteers.  For more information contact Cheri Snow at csnow@penquis.org
