Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox counties for 50 years, is seeking an energetic person to fill a part-time (24 hrs/wk; benefits eligible) Legal Secretary position at its Penquis Law Project in Bangor.  The Law Project is a small, public interest family law practice serving low- to moderate- income individuals who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault and/or stalking.  The chosen candidate will perform traditional secretarial duties such as filing, faxing, copying, scheduling, preparing documents, maintaining files; as well as answering the phone, conducting intakes with prospective clients, returning calls to other law offices, clients and prospective clients, and maintaining a database.  The position requires a high level of confidentiality in accordance with legal standards.


The successful candidate will have an associate’s degree in legal secretarial science or paralegal studies, two years of related work experience with at least one year of experience working as a legal secretary, excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent computer skills, and will display professional conduct and appearance.  The successful candidate must also be a notary public or meet the standards to become one.  Training on the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault will be required. As required by business necessity, upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have clean background checks through the State Bureau of Investigation and the National Sex Offender Public website. Must not have an active record on the System for Award Management (SAM) website.  Entry level pay for this position is $10.35/hr.
