Volunteer Coordinator

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox Counties for 50 years, is seeking a full-time (40 hrs/wk; benefits eligible) Volunteer Coordinator to work in its Transportation Brokerage office in Bangor. 


This position coordinates the recruitment, training, and retention of over 150 volunteers to meet the needs of the Penquis transportation programs.   The successful candidate will interact with volunteers on a regular basis, expand the volunteer base through community outreach opportunities and other recruiting efforts, orient new volunteers and provide ongoing training as appropriate, coordinate functions, and produce newsletters and other correspondence as required.  This position ensures that volunteers have a rewarding, successful experience when interacting with customers and staff. Position requires an Associate’s Degree in Business or related field, and at least two years related work experience with volunteers, or a High School Diploma or equivalent with four years of related work experience with volunteers. At least three years of work experience in a computerized office setting that includes word processing, spreadsheets, and database management is preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills required, as well as excellent skills in business English and general office practice. Bachelor’s Degree and certification as a CVA preferred but not required. As required by business necessity, upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have clean background checks through the State Bureau of Investigation, Maine Department of Human Services, the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles and/or the National Sex Offender Public website. Must not have an active record on the System for Award Management (SAM) website. Starting pay for this position is $14.99/hour.
