Parent Partner

The Penquis Community Partnerships for Protecting Children (CPPC) program is currently seeking a full-time (40 hrs/wk; benefits eligible) Parent Partner. Based on a national model, the CPPC model in Maine is a network of people who live, work, and serve in our communities to support families experiencing high levels of stress. CPPC strives to reduce child abuse and neglect by developing tangible and sustainable strategies to strengthen families, neighborhoods and the child welfare system.


The Parent Partner will act as a role model, providing guidance to parents based on a combination of personal first-hand experiences and training. The Parent Partner will focus on the goal of enhancing and improving Protective Factors and decreasing Risk Factors. The successful candidate will share his/her personal experiences with the child welfare system by participating in various decision-making committees, facilitating parent support groups and topic based workshops. The Parent Partner will act as a mentor to families involved, or at risk of being involved, with Child Protective Services, providing emotional support, healthy role modeling and attending court hearings with the mentoring partner.


Must be a High School graduate/GED equivalent. Must have been a parent involved in the Department’s Child Welfare system, have basic knowledge of that system and be six months’ post reunification. Must be a minimum of one year clean and sober, if addiction/substance use was the presenting issue in previous child welfare experience. Must have experience working with people of diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.  Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have background check results that are satisfactory to Penquis and indicate no current record of involvement with child abuse, neglect or exploitation and no previous or current disqualifying criminal record or motor vehicle record as outlined in current contract provisions.
