Volunteer Drivers Wanted

Volunteer drivers are wanted in all communities within Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties. If you have some time to give and enjoy driving and meeting people, this might be just the thing for you. All volunteers are reimbursed for the use of their vehicle. You would be asked to transport individuals to medical and social service appointments as much or as little as you like. Our volunteers drive daily, once or twice a week -- all ages or restricted ages. You tell us what and how much you are willing to do.

We ask that you complete a Department of Human Services background check, Department of Motor Vehicle check (have safe driving history), and State Bureau of Investigation check (no criminal history). You must be able to complete a 4-hour orientation program, defensive driving, and 8-hour children’s transportation training (if willing to transport children).

Substitute paid drivers are needed in greater Bangor, Millinocket/Lincoln, and Dover-Foxcroft/Greenville areas. These positions are considered “on call” to fill in for current drivers on sick days/vacation days operating agency vehicles. Must be able to complete same background checks listed above, complete 80-hour training program involving the use of wheelchair lifts and passenger assistance techniques, as well as be certified in CPR, complete defensive driving, children’s transportation training, first aid, blood borne pathogens training, and pass biannual physical exam. No special licensing requirements needed.
