Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox Counties for over 50 years, is seeking a full-time (40 hours per week, 52 weeks/year; benefits eligible) Accounts Payable Staff Accountant to work in its Finance Department. Primary duties include coding and processing of invoices for payment, processing staff reimbursements, review vendor statements and work closely with vendors.  Additional duties may include reconciling general ledger accounts, internal and external reporting and analysis, and related activities.

Location: Bangor, Maine

The successful candidate will have prior accounts payable and general accounting experience.  Ability to work with automated invoice systems and support process improvement projects, have the ability to work independently, attention to detail with reviewing and applying codes to invoices, show initiative, provide leadership, prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced diversified workplace.  Requirements include an Associates Degree in Accounting or 4 years related experience, and excellent computer skills, including experience in computer-based accounting applications, as well as spreadsheet and word processing programs.

The rate of pay for this position starts at $19.26 per hour.

As required by business necessity, upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have clean background checks through the State Bureau of Investigation and the National Sex Offender Public website. Must not have an active record on the System for Award Management (SAM) website.

Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.
