Manage Head Start Sites in Bangor Region

Program Manager – Child Development

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, has the following Program Manager opening to oversee and supervise day to day workflow in our Early Childhood Care sites.

  • Location: Bangor, Maine
  • 40 hours per week; 52 weeks per year (benefits eligible)

Penquis Child Development will pay for newly hired staff to obtain appropriate credentials or continued educational opportunities. This position is responsible for the ongoing monitoring and supports of the Penquis Child Development sites listed above and corresponding staff, ensuring that contract and grant requirements are met, such as tracking outcomes and reporting, participating in statewide coalitions, and ensuring that clients receive quality services in a timely and efficient manner.   The successful candidate will supervise staff, work well with community partners and participate in planning processes and program development while conforming to applicable regulations and funding source requirements.

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Social Work, or related field, with 2 years of work experience which includes direct service and staff supervision.  It also requires computer proficiency including word processing, excellent verbal and written communication skills, budget development and monitoring experience, and experience facilitating meetings.  Previous work experience in managing an early childhood center and program evaluation is preferred. The starting salary for a Program Manager is $54,653 per year, and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.  *Eligible upon hire, new employees in our Early Child Care programs who work 24-40 hours per week, will receive a $200 monthly incentive.

Center Aide

Early Head Start working with Infants & Toddlers

Location: Bangor, Maine

40 hrs/wk; 52 wks/year (benefits eligible including 13 paid holidays)

Penquis Child Development will pay for newly hired staff to obtain appropriate credentials or continued educational opportunities. This position assists with greeting children, getting them settled into the facility, assisting with playground supervision and activities, and other daily activities related to the operation of the classroom, including light cleaning duties.  Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, basic reading, writing and math skills, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Working with Early Head Start children requires an infant/toddler CDA within the first year of employment. Training in childcare or social welfare and previous paid experience working with children are preferred.

The starting rate of pay for the Center Aide is $15.48 per hour, and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience. Sign on Incentive of $5000 Available – $1000 payable after successful completion of 2 months, $1500 payable after the successful completion of 6 months, $2500 payable after successful completion of one year of employment. Must be hired before November 18, 2022. Eligible upon hire, new employees in our Early Child Care programs who work 24-40 hours per week, will receive a $200 monthly incentive.

Family Engagement Manager

Important Part of Child Development at Penquis

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for 50 years is currently seeking a full-time (40 hours/week; benefits eligible) Family Engagement Manager to fill a vacancy within our Child Development team.

Location: Bangor, Maine

This position works in conjunction with the Child Development Director and a team of colleagues to assure that comprehensive services are delivered within the Child Development Department, including Child Care, Early Head Start/Head Start Programs and Whole Families Services. You oversee the provision of family services and Whole Families within the department, supervising family support staff, performing training and management functions, and are responsible for meeting all assigned contract requirements and standards. (Federal, State and Local).

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Mental Health and Human Services, Counseling or Family Services, coursework in a related field will be considered. One-year supervising staff in a related field as well as an understanding of family stressors with knowledge of community resources/supports. Working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and systems theory, Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, domestic violence and substance abuse are preferred.

The starting rate of pay for the Family Engagement Manager position is $53,845 per hour and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.

This position is responsible for children in a public school PreK/Head Start collaborative setting, implementing an evidence-based preschool curriculum and administering developmentally appropriate activities, including individual prescriptive programs for children with special needs. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development (or related field with 36 credit hours in ECE); two years paid experience in a child care setting (appropriate practicum experience may be substituted for two years paid experience in an early education/child care setting) and ME DOE “081” teacher certification. Cook (part-time/benefits eligible)

24 hours/week — every other weekend off

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, seeks a Cook (24 hours a week) at Merry Gardens Assisted Living Facility located at 87 John Street in Camden, Maine.

Successful candidate will work to prepare healthy, nutritious meals in the kitchen at Merry Gardens and will assist with clean up of the dining and kitchen areas. In addition, successful candidate will work as part of a team to serve meals to residents in the dining area of the facility in a manner that assures an enjoyable dining experience. Position is 24 hours/week (benefits eligible) (day shifts; every other weekend off).

Required Qualifications include a High school diploma or equivalent, and three years paid experience working in a kitchen; ability to use small and large kitchen equipment; ability to read, write and perform basic math functions; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; must be at least 18 years of age.  The rate of pay for this position starts at $15.25 per hour

Development, including in coursework with a focus on infant & toddler development and appropriate practicum
experience. (Appropriate practicum experience may be substituted for two years paid experience in an early

Housing Assistant

Working for Weatherization Program – Bangor

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, has an opening for a full-time (40 hours per week; benefits eligible) Housing Assistant for the weatherization programs in the Housing & Energy Services Department located in our Bangor Office.

As a Housing Assistant, you provide customer service support to individuals and families by conducting interviews, gathering required documentation and determine eligibility for multiple programs. You provide administrative support for staff and programs in the Housing and Energy Services Department to include, but not limited to Heat Pump, Weatherization and the Central Heating Improvement programs. Motivation and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment is a must. Travel maybe required throughout our three-county service area.

Position requires an associate’s degree in the social service or business field with 2 years’ work experience in an office setting where client contact was a responsibility or 3 years’ work experience in lieu of education; the ability to operate office equipment; good communication skills; and computer proficiency and experience, including data entry and word processing skills.  You must be able to interact with the public in a professional manner; maintain client information in complete confidence; learn and apply federal and state regulations. Must have a valid Maine Driver’s License and use of a vehicle insured to State requirements. 

The starting pay for the Housing Assistant is $15.55 per hour.
