Community Outreach Educator
Rape Response Services, a subsidiary of Penquis, with offices in Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft, seeks a dynamic individual to work as a full-time (36 hours/week; benefit eligible) Community Outreach Educator based in our Bangor office. We are seeking someone who is an energetic and enthusiastic communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills and enjoys working with students of all ages. The successful candidate will provide sexual violence prevention and education programs in schools and communities throughout Penobscot and Piscataquis counties, to students from kindergarten through post-secondary level with special focus on awareness campaigns and support for student groups within the school systems. The successful candidate will provide community outreach and training to professionals and other community members as well as provide direct services to survivors of sexual violence and stalking.
Must have initiative and ability to work independently; must be willing to work flexible hours; be able to provide reliable, insured transportation; and be able to participate in an on-call rotation including nights and weekends.
Applicants must have a high school diploma and five years volunteer or work experience providing education in schools or other community settings. A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development, Education, Community Health Education, or related field and at least one year volunteer or work experience providing education in schools or other community settings is preferred. Computer proficiency and experience, including word processing skills are required. Also required is an awareness of and sensitivity to, issues of sexual violence and a personal philosophy in keeping with the program’s goals and objectives. Previous experience developing educational and outreach materials, experience working with diverse or underserved populations, and knowledge of the local service area a plus. Entry level salary range for this position is $17.55 per hour.
As required by business necessity, upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have clean background checks through the State Bureau of Investigation and Maine Department of Human Services. Must not have an active record on the System for Award Management (SAM) website.
