Working with Families Who are Homeless or at immediate risk of Homelessness

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is hiring for 40 hour per week, benefit eligible, Family and Community Support Coordinator.

These positions will be based in our Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft offices with the opportunity to work from home. Travel is required throughout Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox counties to meet with families and community service providers in various locations.

Location: Bangor, Maine

The Family and Community Support Coordinator will work specifically with families who are homeless and/or at immediate risk of being homeless.  The Family and Community Support Coordinator will assist families and individuals to increase their self-sufficiency by helping them to access community resources, assess their eligibility for a variety of benefits and programs, assist with applications, monitor applications for clients, work in conjunction with other community service providers to support the family move towards independence, create service plans, assist caregivers/parents with gaining employment skills to obtain sustainable employment and become self-sufficient. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with adults and children who are/or maybe homeless. The candidate will also have strong listening skills, creatively problem solve, ability to think outside the box, and willing to learn of services that are available to assist families. The ability to develop and maintain strong community partnerships is a must.

Position requires a degree in social work or related field, or three to five years successful experience working with individuals and families; a working knowledge of resources for low-income individuals; excellent verbal and written communication skills; a valid driver’s license and insured, reliable transportation.  You must be able to interact with the public in a professional manner and maintain client information in complete confidence. 

The starting rate of pay for the Family and Community Support Coordinator position is $19.55 per hour and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.

Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.
