Join our Team! Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is currently seeking a full-time (40 hours/week; benefits eligible) Family and Community Support Coordinator. This position will be based in our Bangor office with the opportunity to work from home with requirements of travel throughout Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox counties to meet with families and community service providers in various locations.

Location: Bangor, Maine 

The Family and Community Support Coordinator will work with low-income individuals, families, and multigenerational families to increase their self-sufficiency by helping them access community resources, assess their eligibility for a variety of benefits and programs, assist with applications, monitor applications for services, work in conjunction with other community service providers to support the family move towards independence, create service plans, assist caregivers/parents with gaining employment skills to obtain sustainable employment and become self-sufficient. This position will include assisting individuals and families who are and have experienced homelessness. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with adults and children who may experience crisis. The candidate will have strong listening skills, creative problem-solving skills, ability to think outside of the box, and willingness to learn of services that are available to assist families. The ability to develop and maintain strong community partnerships is a must.

Family and Community Support Coordinator Requirements:

  • Associates degree in Social Work or related field.
  • Three to five years of successful experience working with individuals and families.
  • Working knowledge of resources for low-income individuals; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and insured reliable transportation.
  • Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.

The rate of pay for this position starts at $19.55 per hour, and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.
