Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is hiring a 40 hour per week, benefit eligible, Family and Community Support Worker in the Housing and Energy Department. This position is primarily housed in our Bangor, Maine office with travel throughout Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox counties. Currently, this a remote position in accordance with the agency’s temporary COVID-19 safety guidelines.

The Family and Community Support Worker will work with low-income individuals and families to increase their safety by helping them to access community resources.  You will assess their eligibility for a variety of benefits and programs, assist with applications and create a service plan.  You must be comfortable working with individuals in crisis and have strong listening skills. The successful candidate will be able to creatively problem solve, think outside the box and love to learn. The ability to develop and maintain strong community partnerships is a must.

Required qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field and five years of successful experience working with individuals and families; working knowledge of area resources for low-income individuals and families; valid driver’s license and reliable insured transportation. Preferred qualifications are a social work license and supervisory experience. The rate of pay for this position starts at $19.26 per hour and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.

Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.
