Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is hiring a full time, benefit eligible Finance Director reporting to the Chief Financial Officer in Bangor, Maine. While, this is currently a partially remote position in accordance with the agency’s temporary COVID-19 safety guidelines, it is expected that this position will return to the office at some time in the future.
The Finance Director works in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Finance Team by overseeing all functional areas of the accounting department, grant accounting and reporting, purchasing, and financial report preparation to funding sources. The Finance Director works with the CFO to strengthen internal controls, encourage sound budgeting practices, provide research and analysis, monitor contracts, coordinate the annual financial and compliance audit, and assist the Agency with financial solutions. This position works closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Department Directors and Department Managers to ensure a smooth-running finance office in support of agency requirements and programs providing direct service to clients.
The Finance Director is responsible for making sure that monthly agency financial reports are prepared accurately and timely. The financial reports to funders are prepared accurately and timely. Must make sure a clear audit trail of all financial transactions exists. Also, that finance operations are in compliance with labor laws, Penquis Personnel Policies, Penquis Accounting and Financial Policies, contracts, grants, Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200 and IRS requirements.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a combination of 7-10 years of training and experience that demonstrates capability of organizing and carrying out the tasks described above at the executive level. 7 – 10 years’ experience in a busy financial department with strong technical accounting skills, or CPA/CMA designation. Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills. Collaborative working style with the capabilities to drive advancement of compliance and ERM programs agency-wide. Demonstrated personal qualities of maturity and discretion. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality, ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, provide leadership, prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced diversified workplace. Computer proficiency and familiarity with spreadsheet, database, and word processing packages.
The salary range for this position is $78,834-$118,252 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
