The Penquis Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) is looking for two amazing individuals to join their team at our Bangor office. A CAC is a safe and child-focused place that provides services to their children and non-offending caregivers when a child may have experienced sexual abuse. A group of people from different agencies and services work together as a team to help the child. While at the CAC, the child will speak with an interviewer. Referrals will be made to counselors, doctors and other services that the child and the caregiver may need.
This position is full time (36-40 hours per week; benefit eligible) and will include weekday, night and weekend hours and may require travel throughout Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.
The Forensic Interviewer will be responsible for providing forensic interviews of children that are timely, legally sound, trauma-informed and comply with best practices. The Forensic Interviewer will act in accordance with all policies, protocols and national accreditation standards. The Forensic Interviewer will work closely with members of our multi-disciplinary team including law enforcement, the District Attorney’s office and child protective services. The successful candidate will help to coordinate monthly multi-disciplinary team advisory committee meetings and monthly case review, as well as participate in other community meetings on behalf of the CAC. The Forensic Interviewer will work together with other CAC staff to conduct community outreach and education and to assure that families and children served at the CAC experience positive outcomes.

The Family Advocate will coordinate and schedule forensic interviews and subsequent follow up calls. The Family Advocate will welcome families to the CAC and support non-offending caregivers and child victims while they are at the CAC, through advocacy and referrals to support services.
The Family Advocate will work closely with members of our multi-disciplinary team including law enforcement, the District Attorney’s office and child protective services. The successful candidate will be required to attend monthly multi-disciplinary team and case review meetings. The Family Advocate will be responsible for administrative duties including but not limited to; case tracking, collecting quarterly stats from referring agencies and assuring forms and other resources are kept up to date.
Both of these positions will work closely with staff at Rape Response Services (RRS), a subsidiary of Penquis, and collaborate to ensure all victims of sexual violence receive the highest quality services. Must have initiative and ability to work independently; must be willing to work flexible hours; be able to provide reliable, insured transportation; and be able to take required on call shifts for RRS, including nights and weekends.
Applicants applying for either position must have a high school diploma and at least five years of related experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services or a related field and at least one year of specifically related experience are preferred. Also required are a personal philosophy in keeping with the program’s goals and objectives and an understanding of clinical, legal and/or political issues related to sexual assault. Out of state training and travel may be required. Entry level salary range for these positions start at $17.55 per hour.
As required by business necessity, upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have clean background checks through the State Bureau of Investigation and Maine Department of Human Services. Must not have an active record on the System for Award Management (SAM) website.
