Responsible for Overseeing Child Care Programming

Location: Bangor, Maine

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox counties for 50 years, is recruiting for the above leadership position.  Based in Bangor, this full-time (40 hrs/wk; benefits eligible) management position is responsible for overseeing Head Start, Early Head Start, and child care programming as well as CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program). The position is responsible for:  meeting all assigned contract requirements and performance standards (State, Federal and Local) for multiple contracts; managing program budgets and a staff of 115; developing and maintaining a broad range of partnerships at the local, state and national level; and staffing governing and advisory groups. The position oversees communications related to the management of daily operations, leads department development and grantsmanship, and integrates operations to blend direct service from all funding sources.  This position will contribute to the program’s vision, strategies and resources and is a public advocate for children, families, the Early Childhood profession and Penquis.  The ideal candidate will be committed to Penquis’ Mission and will build and maintain a unified Penquis presence in the community. 

Applicants must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, or related field, 5-7 years related management experience, three of which are in a supervisory or administrative capacity, excellent verbal and written skills, math/computational skills, and computer proficiency. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of and experience with Head Start Standards, the Head Start Act, and Child Care Licensing Rules; experience in grant writing; and experience in not-for-profit management.  Familiarity with the issues of rural poverty will be helpful.  The chosen candidate must be bondable.

The starting salary for Director of Head Start is $71,668 and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.
