Do you want to be part of a team that is helping to ensure that hundreds of children are receiving healthy, nutritional meals? Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is currently seeking a full-time (40 hours/week; benefits eligible) Nutrition Manager. The Nutrition Manager will oversee the provision of nutritional services in compliance with the Head Start performance standards. This is a supervisory position for all staff working in our kitchens and the Child and Adult Food Care Program Specialist.

Location: Bangor, Maine

Key responsibilities include reviewing instructions and other pertinent medical information for children with special dietary needs to assure accuracy and understanding for self and staff; training staff in nutrition, food purchasing, storage, preparation and kitchen safety; providing resource materials for integrating nutrition into the preschool curriculum, including family style dining; developing and implementing cycle menus for the Penquis preschool programs; and collaborating with food service directors in public school Pre-K partnerships and other community partnerships.

The Nutrition Manager works closely with the entire Administrative team, including our Data Manager to collect, monitor, and report data to ensure contract and service obligations are met. The Nutrition Manager will attend and actively participate in State Head Start Nutrition content meetings and oversee implementation of Child and Adult Care Food Program sponsor’s agreement.  The successful candidate will conduct regular site visits to ensure quality food preparation and kitchen safety measures are followed.

Required qualifications include, a Bachelor’s degree with a nutrition-related major and 3-5 years of experience in community nutrition, including services to preschool children (required experience could be concurrent with training), excellent communication skills and computer proficiency. The salary range for this position is $54,653-$81,980 commensurate with experience and qualifications. Those with related education and experience are encouraged to apply.
