Manages Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for 50 years is currently seeking a temporary full-time (40 hours/week for 30 weeks; benefits eligible) Tax Site Coordinator to fill vacancy within our Housing & Energy Services Department.  The position will require some travel within our service area. 

Location: Bangor, Maine

As a Tax Site Coordinator, you are responsible for managing Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program activities throughout Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Waldo counties. Primary duties include recruiting and ensuring volunteers are certified to prepare tax returns. You will be a member of the Eastern Maine CA$H Coalition promoting tax assistance and asset development. You will be required to track volunteer hours and complete reports throughout the tax season. Travel amounts will vary throughout the service area as required.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years of work experience, be able to pass and be certified in IRS trainings, excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet programs, ability to manage multiple sites simultaneously. Must have a valid Maine Driver’s License and use of a reliable vehicle insured to State requirements.

The starting rate of pay for the Tax Site Coordinator position is $19.55 per hour and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.

Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.
