Heating Assistance Available Now to Qualified Households
2023 Winter Energy Relief (LD3)
Penquis serves Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox Counties through the Winter Energy Relief program. Winter Energy Relief is a program that provides a one-time assistance payment of $800 directly to energy vendors on behalf of income-eligible households. This assistance could be for oil, propane, kerosene, wood pellets, wood, coal or bio bricks. It can also be used towards electricity if your heating system requires electricity to run. This program is available to anyone who meets income requirements. Subsidized with heat included households are not eligible for this program. Apply by July 3, 2023.
Who is eligible?
- Households that do not qualify for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and are below the 300% of the 2022-2023 federal poverty level (FPL). Examples of income eligibility include: A household of 1 can make up to $40,077 in annual gross income. A household of 4 can make up to $83,250 in combined annual gross income.
- Households that have never applied for HEAP.
- Households that applied for HEAP and have exhausted their HEAP and ECIP benefit.
