Join our Opioid Affected Youth Initiative Team

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for more than 50 years, is recruiting for a full time, (40 hour/week; benefits eligible) Youth Resource Navigator in its Family Enrichment Services Department.  This position is part of our Penquis Opioid Affected Youth Initiative team serving youth up to age 18 who have been impacted by the opioid crisis and other substances.

Located: Bangor, Maine

The Youth Resource Navigator will coordinate services for children and youth who have been impacted by the opioid crisis and provide referrals to in-house and community supports. They will connect youth and family to needed resources. They will identify and facilitate recreational group opportunities through area organizations such as YMCA, Parks and Recreation, Bangor Area Recovery Network, Discovery House and others. They will assist in creating and presenting a training curriculum for providers, parents, and community members to provide a robust community response for the target population, facilitate/co-facilitate curriculum-based groups, maintain appropriate documentation to meet federal grant regulations, network with area providers and community members to stay informed regarding available resources, services, and service gaps.

Required Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health, Social Work, or related field with a minimum of three years volunteering and/or working with and for young people, specifically in the areas of resiliency building, trauma, or direct social services; experience working with high-risk adolescents and youth; valid Maine driver’s license in good standing and reliable transportation. Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel preferred.

The starting rate of pay for the Youth Resource Navigator is $19.84 per hour.

Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have background check results that are satisfactory to Penquis and indicate no previous or current record of involvement with child abuse, neglect or exploitation and no other disqualifying background as outlined in current contract provisions.
