Eligibility Specialist (HEAP) – Bangor

Job Overview

Penquis is seeking a full-time Eligibility Specialist to join the Housing & Energy team in Bangor. This role works directly with clients by phone and in person to conduct interviews, collect and verify documentation, and determine eligibility for energy assistance programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews and screening to gather documentation and determine eligibility for energy assistance programs.
• Maintain knowledge of HEAP, LIAP, AMP, WX, CHIP, AST, and related program requirements to respond accurately to client questions.
• Provide referrals to other resources based on each individual's or family's needs.
• Interact professionally with the public while maintaining client confidentiality and following federal and state regulations.
• Use application processing systems to calculate income, energy assistance payments, and household eligibility criteria.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in a social service or business field and/or 1 to 2 years of office experience with client contact responsibilities.
• Computer proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet programs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid Maine driver's license and reliable, insured transportation.
• Ability to meet Penquis background-check requirements upon hire and periodically thereafter, with satisfactory results as required by current contract provisions.
