Job Overview
Have a passion for working with children? Join our Early Head Start/Head Start team, providing early childhood education services. Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is currently seeking a full-time Preschool Center Aide. As the Center Aide, you assist with activities involved in the daily operation of a childcare facility or preschool classroom. This is a full-time position 38 hours per week; 42 weeks per year PreK/Head Start collaborative setting based in Brewer
Responsibilities
- Greeting children, getting them settled into the facility.
- Assisting with classroom and playground supervision, and other daily activities related to the operation of the classroom, including light cleaning duties.
- Maintain the confidentiality of client files and information.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and up to 12 months of experience.
- Ability to read, write and perform basic math functions.
- A minimum of an age-appropriate Child Development Accreditation (CDA) must be obtained within the first 12 months of assignment to an Early Head Start/Infant Toddler/Head Start classroom.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work directly with children aged birth to 5 years old, managing noises and behaviors typical of this age group, including potentially unsafe actions like hitting, kicking and biting.
- Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.

Additional Compensation
Penquis Child Development pays for newly hired staff to obtain appropriate credentials or pursue continued educational opportunities in accordance with Head Start standards.
New employees in Early Childhood programs who work 24 to 40 hours per week are eligible upon hire for a monthly stipend based on their lattice through MRTQ (Maine Roads to Quality).
