Foster Grandparent Program
The Foster Grandparent Program connects eligible adults age 55 and older with children who benefit from additional nurturing support.
The AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program provides opportunities for adults age 55 and older to remain active, give back, and connect with their communities by sharing their time with children who benefit from additional nurturing support.
Foster Grandparents may volunteer with children one-on-one or in small groups at locations such as schools, childcare centers, and Head Start centers.
Volunteer Benefits
- A stipend for hours volunteered
- Paid holidays
- Earned time
- Assistance with transportation and meals
Eligibility and Commitment
- Age 55 or older
- Meet the program's income eligibility requirements
- Able to volunteer approximately 15 to 40 hours, based on current program expectations and placement availability
Penquis sponsors the Foster Grandparent Program in 14 Maine counties—all counties except York and Cumberland.
