Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, has openings for full-time (40 hours per week/ benefits eligible) Eligibility Specialists to fill a 10-month seasonal position with the possibility of becoming year-round in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
Location: Bangor, Maine
As an Eligibility Specialist you work directly with clients to conduct interviews, gather required documentation and determine eligibility for energy programs such as, but not limited to the: Home Energy Assistance Program, Energy Crisis Intervention Program, Low Income Assistance Program, Arrears Management Program, Weatherization, Central Heating Improvement Program and the Above Ground Storage Tank Replacement Program. Motivation and the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment is a must. Travel maybe required throughout our three county service area.
The position requires an Associate’s degree in the social service or business field with 2 years’ work experience in an office setting where client contact was a responsibility or 3 years work experience in lieu of education. Must have computer proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet programs, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Eligibility Specialist will interact with the public in a professional manner; maintain client information in complete confidence; learn and apply federal and state regulations. Must have a valid Maine driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation.
The starting rate of pay for the Eligibility Specialist position is $16.17 per hour.
Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.
