Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) — Part time (16-24 hours per week)
The Penquis Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) seeks a dynamic and caring individual to work as a part-time (16-24 hours per week) Family Advocate. CAC’s are facility-based programs which provide an effective, multi-disciplinary, child-centered approach to child sexual abuse investigation.
Location: Bangor, Maine
The Family Advocate will coordinate and schedule forensic interviews at the CAC. The Family Advocate will welcome families to the CAC and support non-offending caregivers and child victims while they are at the CAC, through advocacy and referrals to support services.
The Family Advocate will work closely with staff at Rape Response Services (RRS), a subsidiary of Penquis, and collaborate to ensure all victims of sexual violence receive the highest quality services. Must have initiative and ability to work independently; must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekday, nights and weekends; requires travel throughout Penobscot and Piscataquis counties and will need to have a State of Maine driver’s license in good standing along with reliable, insured transportation. The Family Advocate must be available for on call shifts for RRS, including nights and weekends.
Applicants must have a high school diploma and at least five years of related experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services or a related field and at least one year of specifically related experience is preferred. Also required are a personal philosophy in keeping with the program’s goals and objectives and an understanding of clinical, legal and/or political issues related to sexual assault.
The starting rate of pay for the Family Advocate position is $18.08 per hour and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.
