Child Development Department Head Start – Rockland Office

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is hiring a new full-time (40 hours per week, benefit eligible) Family Support Coach in our Child Development Department Head Start program. This position is primarily housed in our Rockland office with travel throughout Knox County.

As a Family Support Coach, you work directly with clients to provide intensive case management. Through intake and assessment, you collaborate with the family to develop a Family Plan. The Family Plan identifies needs, interests, strengths, goals and services that support family well-being. These include family safety, health, with an added focus on parent and child education and economic stability using the Whole Family/2 Gen approach. The Family Support Coach will advocate, advice, and provide service coordination and follow-up. The successful candidate will be able to creatively problem solve, think outside the box and love to learn. This position requires regular check-ins with families in order to develop positive, trusting relationships. This work includes supporting parents in both one on one and group settings.The must be able to develop and maintain strong community partnerships.

Required qualifications are an Associate’s degree in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field.  At least two years’ experience working in a social service-based program.  Minimum of three years’ experience working with children and families. Previous experience working with families facing parenting challenges; working knowledge of area resources for low-income individuals; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft products; must have a valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation. Preferred qualifications are a social worker license and supervisory experience.

The starting rate of pay for this position is $16.17 per hour, and additional compensation will be given consideration with relevant experience.

Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have background check results that are satisfactory to Penquis and indicate no previous or current involvement with child abuse, neglect or exploitation and no other disqualifying background checks as outlined in current contract provisions.
