Join our Team! Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is currently seeking a is currently seeking a (full time 40 hours/week; benefits eligible) Family Visitor. As the Family Visitor you assist in the enrollment of families prenatally to three months of age by providing supportive home visits to expectant parents and parents of babies and toddlers up until age three to promote safe home environments, healthy growth and development, and connect families to community resources. Through regularly scheduled visits, you deliver use an evidenced-based model to promote positive parent-child interactions, build parenting skills, and knowledge around child development, while establishing and maintaining solid working relationships with area providers and community members. This is a hybrid position based out of the Bangor or Lincoln location.

Location: Bangor, Maine

Family Visitor Responsibilities:

  • Complete required assessments and develop a goal plan, in conjunction with the family that identifies their strengths and addresses their needs, upon receipt of referral.
  • Perform developmental screening on infants and children enrolled in the program. Utilize and complete all screening tools and assessments with families within expected timeframes.
  • Provide in-home education for eligible families through pregnancy and until the child reaches the age of three.
  • Advocate for families, acting as a liaison between families and community, schools, agencies and providers.

Family Visitor Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in child development, Social Work or other related field and 1-2 years of experience working with families with children ages birth to 6 years.
  • Reliable, insured transportation and have proof of automobile insurance.
  • Experience in home visitation, knowledge of infants and child development, experience providing case management and the ability to work well independently.
  • Strong organizational, computer, and time management skills.
  • Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.

The rate of pay for this position starts at $21.04 per hour, and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience. Those with related education and experience are encouraged to apply. The Maine Families Home Visiting Program offers a comprehensive on boarding process and annual training opportunities. Maine Families provides the opportunity to become a certified Lactation Counselor.
