Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, seeks facilitators to work in its Restorative Justice program as per diem (up to 8 hours per week) program staff.  The Restorative Justice program works with youth who have a chargeable offense, their family and those who have been impacted by an incident, to engage in restorative services such as restorative conferences, circles or mediations.  As a facilitator in the program, you will be responsible for providing facilitation and coordination of services to referred youth in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.

Must be trained in Restorative Justice 101 as a facilitator or be willing to complete the training; be willing to work flexible hours and submit availability on an ongoing basis to the Program Manager.  Must have a valid Maine Driver’s License and be able to provide reliable, insured transportation within the two counties.  Must have access to a reliable smart phone, or phone and computer, to utilize for phone calls to coordinate program scheduling and to access the program’s database system.

Required qualifications include High School diploma with a minimum of three years’ experience volunteering and/or working with and for young people, specifically in the areas of youth development, youth leadership or direct social services; experience working with teens or at risk youth; and experience with family systems.  Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills and be comfortable facilitating groups. Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have background check results that are satisfactory to Penquis and indicate no previous or current record of involvement with child abuse, neglect or exploitation and no disqualifying criminal record or motor vehicle record as outlined in current contract provisions.

Preferred qualifications include an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in mental health, social work or related field, direct experience with Restorative Justice programming or practices, and experience providing community outreach.
