Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is seeking 3 full time (40 hours per week; benefits eligible) Vehicle Operators within our Transportation Department. As the Vehicle Operator, you are responsible for the safe transport of clients in an agency vehicle from one pre-determined destination as designated to another. We currently are looking to hire drivers in the Bangor and Dover Foxcroft areas.
Location: Bangor, Maine
Vehicle Operator Responsibilities:
- Safely assist all passengers on and off vehicle as needed and offer help with personal items. Assistance may include pushing/pulling passengers in wheelchairs but does not include lifting a passenger.
- Perform a pre-trip inspection at the start of each day, as well as a post-trip inspection at days end.
- Must maintain a neat and professional appearance.
- Ability to pass CPR, First Aid, Defensive Driving and Passenger Assistance Training tests and successfully complete children’s transportation training.
Vehicle Operator Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of experience with a valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Able to pass a pre-employment physical including drug testing, and submit to random drug/alcohol testing.
- Have good defensive driving skills, and a driving record with no more than one at fault accident or ticket within the past two consecutive years, and no Operating Under the Influence (OUI) convictions in the last seven consecutive years.
- Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.

The rate of pay for this position starts at $17.07 per hour, and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.
