Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is hiring a 40-hour-per-week, benefit-eligible, Vehicle Technician.
Location-Bangor, Maine
This position is responsible for the efficient diagnosis, repair, and scheduled maintenance of all Penquis owned vehicles. Will be able to perform all scheduled maintenance, electrical diagnosis/repair, brake inspection/repair, suspension work, tire installation, and all other manner of automotive repairs and maintenance; adhere to DOT standards. Complete a thorough automotive vehicle inspection on every vehicle you service and perform any repairs and maintenance as necessary. Perform State of Maine inspections. Maintain a clean, neat work area. Test drive all Penquis vehicles in a safe manner. Maintain an accurate parts inventory to service and repair Penquis vehicles. Report any mechanical or safety concerns to the Fleet Coordinator or Operations Manager. Track all repairs made to Penquis vehicles using fleet maintenance software. Effectively communicate with drivers to assist with diagnosing any issues with Penquis vehicles. Inspect, service, diagnose, and repair wheelchair lifts. Operate welding and torch equipment. Operate agency vehicles in and around the garage, between Penquis facilities and other service
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2-3 years of experience as an automotive technician. At a minimum must have a valid Class C Maine driver’s license and have had it for at least two years. Must have good defensive driving skills, and a clean driving record with no more than one at fault accident or ticket within the past two consecutive years, and no Operating Under the Influence (OUI) convictions in the last seven consecutive years. Must have a basic set of automotive tools. Ability to work with hands overhead, stand for long periods, and lift up to 75 lbs. Ability to work independently or with others as needed. Must be certified, or become certified within 6 months, to perform State of Maine vehicle inspections (Class A and D). Available for emergency call-in when needed. Ability to pass pre-employment and then random drug and alcohol testing. Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have background check results that are satisfactory to Penquis and indicate no previous or current record of involvement with child abuse, neglect or exploitation and no disqualifying criminal record or motor vehicle record as outlined in current contract provisions.
The rate of pay for this position starts at $18.98 per hour and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.
