JPenquis is seeking 2-3 men and women to facilitate the batterers’ intervention program (BIP) for men. BIP is an educational program for men who have been convicted of a domestic violence assault or have been referred by DHHS. This is a flexible position ranging from 3 to 18 hours weekly depending on the individual. This program is based in both Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft. Group classes are held in the late afternoons and evenings. There is a mandatory certification training being held May 20th, 21st, and 22nd which all facilitators have to attend.
The BIP facilitators teach men in the group how to identify, challenge, and change their core beliefs that support the use of violence with their intimate partners. These are educational classes following a standardized format to confront abusive behavior and help support a way of thinking and reacting that is free of power and control. BIP classes are run by two co-facilitators, a male and a female. They conduct class according to the program’s curriculum, maintaining the program’s standards, and completing appropriate documentation, under the supervision of the Deputy Director. This position requires someone who is skilled in group facilitation and has some knowledge of domestic violence. This position is for someone who wants to help end domestic violence.
Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must have background check results that are satisfactory to Penquis and indicate no previous or current record of involvement with child abuse, neglect or exploitation and no disqualifying criminal record or motor vehicle record as outlined in current contract provisions.
